New Balance Aquathlon 2005

New Balance Aquathlon 2005

Venue: Sentosa
Time: 12:00
Distance: 800metre swim, 5km run (SPRINT)

There are a few events for Aquathlon including the long distance 1.5km swim, 10k run, but being my first time, I decided to take part in the sprint event. My training is sufficient to cover the long distance, but I just wanna try it out and see how it taste like.

I was at Sentosa around 9:40am. Saw Balasing, Sotong(& Mrs) & ironmandreamer there initially.Register myself and get my body marked with tag number 402….hehe….quite stylo…as I always admire those ppl with number on their shoulder, finally it is my turn…

Wait and wait, more sgrunners came abroad. Glad to see some familiar faces and quite a few unfamiliar faces as well. Saw Chong Lai Min(424 SAR) there, we did the sprint together, he finished before myself. No ideal what is timing is, will take a look at the official timing later. A few familiar swimming kaki(Monday lessons) are there as well.

At 12 noon, the race start….a so call WET start…meaning we have to swim to the starting point about 30metres from the shore, trend water and waited for the start…COMMANDO is there doing the sprint as well, ask him to go in front and lead the assault force, the rest of us drafting after him, he doesn’t seem to be so willing leh…so disappointing…haha….

The swim in the sea is pretty okay I feel. Cant see the water(dark lah compare to swimming pool), after a few strokes have to take a look as scare going the wrong & longer route. Sometime the lanes get block, have to use breakstroke to rest and assess the situation. At half way point(where I have to do a small shore loop) It is about 10mins+. After that the spacing between swimmer have open up and it is easy to swim. I finish the swim around 20mins I think, forget to look at the time. As a whole the swim is pretty ok. No stress nothing, easy swim I would say. Buoyancy is better in the sea and legs are not sinking as I swim. Haha…cool…

I put on the gear and left the transition at 21:30. Damn it, the bib numbers (4 pins) have become 1 pin left…have to get those tie in bib number leow lah…after this experience. .. the running pace is pretty okay as I started off. The rain showered & I start to wonder why do I bother with the shades and cap.. anyway, just run lah…

The whole run itself, I glad to report nobody overtaken myself. It is only me overtaking the whole lot. I believe I overtook at least 50 more folks along the 5km route. After the U turn point at midpoint, I pressed on and chiong for it. The feeling is good and finished the event at 43:21…haha…..within 45mins that I have set for myself.

I am official a bia-athletic leow….haha….;) A pity I didn’t do the longer distance, as I find the short one abit easy…next one will take the longer distance…ON……

Later found out that alex(same wave) did not do the run as the weather condition have caused concern and the organiser stop or pulled the swimmer out of the water. So dissapointing leh. I only realised this when i finished my run, fortunately i finished swim leow so it dont affected myself. Heng sia...or else have to redo the whole swim/run again. It was messy, i dont know those pulled out(sprint event) redo the whole thing or not...

Anway, due to the delayed start, i can't wait for the rest of the sgrunners to come back. I left slightly after 2pm.

Pictures are available.
