International Friendship Run

The Continental Airlines International Friendship Run is a fun run for international marathon entrants and ticketed guests.
Participants and spectators are also invited to the presentation of the 2006 Abebe Bikila Award at the United Nations at 8:00 a.m. This award is given annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport of distance running. Past winners include Fred Lebow, Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, Tegla Loroupe, and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
The run begins immediately following the ceremony and is free to international marathon entrants. Friends and family of international marathoners who would like to take part may purchase tickets for $20 at the ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo.

Make sure your race number is clearly visible on the front of your shirt so you can be easily identified. Spectators are invited to come out and cheer the runners as they make their way through the streets of Midtown Manhattan. Many participants wear their national colors or carry flags in joyful demonstration of international diversity. After the run, participants are treated to breakfast near Tavern on the Green and linger to socialize and exchange t-shirts and pins.
