6km+

Another 6km,+ i would have touch base with a marathon distance today.

The thought of doing 30km+ for training is something that everyone dread. Whenever it come closer to a Marathon, the training of such distance is mandatory to prepare for such the event. Apart from the first Marathon which i had under prepared. The rest of the Marathons i have been religiously follow with at least a couple of 30k+.

Contrarily to most believe, i will like to think differently about Marathon. Marathon is not just about challenging yourself to complete the distance. It is not about how fast you run as well.
It is about going through the process of preparing for a Marathon and finding something about yourself. Everyone run Marathon for their own reason(s). In the process you learn the discipline(or lack of it) to do your run religiously. Learn about your body - how your body react to prolong training? Hopefully you achieve the reason(s) that draw you to completing a Marathon.

Woke up 3am and prepare for the run at 4 am. Waking up unearthly hours at 3 am isn't my idea of LSD. Actually i don't really mind doing the run at this hour, just that my body isn't use to.

We start the run at 4:20am. Sigh...long story. We are suppose to do 2 sets of 16. 2nd set extend to 4km more. Making it total of 36km. We start off in stuffy weather. We are drench in less than 10mins. There isn't any runners on the road, some cyclist. Most are sleeping by the BBQ pitch or chairs. We have a very slow first set, hamper by two toilet paisai trips!

Along the first set, i came across 2 BIG white dogs, very flurry. Hehe...so nice to see them wandering around with their owner. I also meet up with Realrunner and David Tey. It is very good to see folks along the way while we do the run, acknowledge and keep the spirit up. I am surprised that David still remember my name! Haha...i am just a nobody and he can still remember ME! Also see Ben Tan with his wife and doggie!

2nd set of the run, with MP3 hooked up, it is much easy to run. It is OTOT. I enjoy this part of the run. Maybe the first set are running below par, 2nd set is back to my normal pace and feeling more efficiency. Went into cruise mode and push on with nice music. :( Saw tekko and Mrs doing their runs. Saw another couple "walking" instead of running! Slacker! Still dare to call me slacking! Buay paiseh!!

I was getting tired by 2nd half of the 2nd set. It is not unexpected once u hit 30km. One package of Powergel does wonder! Unfortunately it is just a booster for a short period of time. Somehow i am very alert after getting the boost from Powergel, i didn't push the pace, just maintaining. I keep telling myself, if i push i get very tired very fast after the effect of Powergel wear off. Most of the time we don't know when the effect will wear off. When we realise it, most probably we have push too hard and get yourself tired as well. Maybe i am slack...hehe....

It was more mental when i cross 34km and the weather is getting very hot. Furthermore due to the early start today(didnt have a "mood" to paisai this morning), tummy is causing me discomfort! I like to go beyond physical boundary into mental territory as this is the part where mind take over the body. Likewise, it does have a price to pay!

I am glad t0 complete the distance i have set for myself. If feel good mentality. But the price is just as great. Abrasion all over the body!(So painful during bathing!), right knee getting strain. Calves and thighs...Sigh...

P/S: forget to bring breakfast this morning! Damn it. Hungry....:(
