Aviva 70.3
I had a good 3 weeks combo a year back. Thinking back, it was challenging and good experience. 2 HIM in between sandwich with a 21km(AHM). Is it tough? As long as i am ready(with sufficient training), this is a breeze.
This year i didn't take up the challenge. It was a struggle, after some brain storming, I have to give it a miss. Physically i am just not there. Sigh...
I decide to volunteer for Aviva when i know it is not possible for me to take part in it. Alas the volunteer enrolment have passed. I wrote in to them requesting for kayak safety, alas no reply. My prayer was heard that to the kayak forum(Thanks to Taz for recommendation a year ago! Finally this has come to bear fruit :)). A few emails later, i am ON for Aviva as Safety Kayaker. In fact, i even manage to jio licht to join me.
Pick up licht and head to ECP. Took a walk and reach staging area at 5:55am.
After a briefing, start to deploy the boat at 6:40am. Licht and myself decide to double kayak(open top).
It was interesting to see things in closed up. Some swimmers are fast, some just CMI. I wonder, what the hell those slower swimmers are doing! This is not a sprint event, it is 70.3 hello! Not for you to come and test the water and see whether you like to do openwater swim or not! I was disappointed.
The swim leg went over in around 2hours. Nothing major happened. This is 70.3, Most(definitely not all) come prepare to tackle the distance. So it was pretty smooth.
After finished the tour decide to join the rest of the gang on the road cheering the participants.
It is nice to see so many familiar faces cheering or on the road.
Left the place slightly 11am. Tired and need to wash up and catch some rest before picking up sweet heart.
Heard it is a tough race...i was like...har? Kidding right? This is tough? I ask those old birdies that took part..nobody say it was tough leh...My conclusion, your training is not enough. Hehe.
