26-3-2010 Panic Attack
26-3-2010 Panic Attack
I am back in the race site early morning for our warm up swim. Seems like a mini fanfare when we arrived. Saw that small of Singaporean group of competitor there. It should just us and them being the Singapore contingent.
Water isn’t as cold as Busselton and it seems very good for a swim without wet suit! Damn, I have to be in this space suit. :(
I find it difficult to move and harder to move and find breathing rather difficult. Out of the nowhere, I felt frighten. I am not comfortable. I start to develop negative thoughts. I wonder why I am torturing myself with this? I am not “design” for this. That is like less than 10mins in the water. I have to tread water, slow down and regroup a few times.
The water was calm. It is so, because there is a small island blocking the waves inland. The rest of the beach along Port Mac…well…let say it is good for wave riding. It looks more challenging! Unfortunately with the space suit…any help is given.
It is rather strange that in the middle of the swim, there is a stretch of area that is shallow enough for standing. Which is welcome for me to take a break. We didn’t make it to the U-turn point, before heading back to beach. About ah hour of swim is complete. I am rather glad I had the swim and experience the condition before race day.
Note: I heard from Sevi, what I experience is Panic Attack. If that is so, I had experience this in Aviva 70.3 2007, Busselton IM 2007 and China IM 2008 during event day. I was freaked up! I have to slow down, regroup, focus something else and slowly move on and complete the swim leg. I will need to find out more to better address the matter or whether that is my condition.
Evening Carbo loading. This kind of event, better avoid from my previous experiences. Nevertheless since inside the package, then just goes to see how things go. Also given the 25th anniversary this time, it should be good experience.
Spent almost 2 hours time. It is definitely something different from the couple times, I have taken part. Glad that I didn’t skip. Food wise is pretty decent. Atmosphere wise seems more friendly than i previous experience.
