k2 time trial - April
April Time Trial for Mount Kinabulu
Monday - 10km time trial, Wednesday - stairclimbing 40 stories x 3 sets x up and down
Was this a raining and wet season? Anyway it was a wet monday. I was slightly late(7:05pm) as the traffic at ECP is bad. I expect slow down along AYE/ECP portion, but the jam was worst. I met the rest of the group outside of Macdonald.
After the briefing by NTUC staff, we started off the run around 7:30pm. I started off conservatively. Letting the faster runners take the lead, as usual Sim was ahead in no time.
My left calf is abit aching, whereas my right thigh is abit tight. I don't understand why this is so, maybe the run on Good Friday haven't recover yet. My breathing is okay, but the leg isn't as cooperative as i would like it. No choice lah, have to run. We run towards the lagoon area and make a U-Turn around the toilet area. We head towards Bedok Jetty toilet(F2); the route was abit messy as instruction from NTUC staff is to follow the cycle footprint. Around East Coast Food Centre the path is even more messy. I took the longest route, i dont know how much more, but i just ran. Shortly after East Coast Food Centre, i saw Sim coming back the other way as expected. Followed by Anthony, David and Timothy in a tight group. I was surprised that i didnt see Xavier and Zul in front as they went together on the 2nd wave behind Sim. I was among the backpacker.
I make U-turn and saw Ronnie, Xavier, Sabrina and Roland on the path towards F2. The legs are feeling much better, but i continue the steady pace. I have to stop around East Coast Food centre when 2 foreigners from China asking for direction to Red House Seafood restaurant. What to do, at that moment, i have to stop and give them the direction.
I finished the run at 57:19 mins. Abit slow i would say, but the distance should be more than 10km. I was informed later, it is 11km. I realised that i lost my chionging speed. I havent been doing speedwork for a long time and that is the reason. Anyway, it was a good workout. Hopefully it does not have too much impact for the rest of the week.
Tuesday Evening, i feel my calfs and thighs abit tight. Die lah...still have stairclimbing coming out soon.
Wednesday at Toa Payoh, i arrived early. Quite a few folks have arrived as well. Hamidah, Carmen and Lingam are there to look into the climb. We start the climb ard 7:15pm. I walked up the stairs as relax as possible(since it is 3 sets), not going to chiong like the first TT. I feeling good after 1st climb at 5:30mins and walk down the stair on the other side. I try to run in between the 2 staircases(along corridor) and realised that upper thighs are a bit tight. Coming down i take my time shuffling my steps along. This is my first time running down and want to do it conservatively. In no time, timothy have catch up with me as we do the descend together. How come he can do it so fast? Must ask him next time.
Timothy and myself run together from there onwards. I lead him on the climb, but he make it up on the descend. We finished the run on 32:17mins i think.
