First 400th
I did my first 400 stories climb tonight. It wasnt a difficult climb, just a slow and steady climb.
Went over to Toa Payoh after work to do the climb. 10 sets of 40 stories. Average around 7:35mins per set. Took the lift down, up & down about 10mins. Did the entire 400 stories about 100mins. I feel great, i can push on further, but i choose not to and risk injury. Anyway i am going MR tomorrow for a run to try out the new Montrail trail shoe.
Next month i am going for recee trip to Mount Kinabalu and i am abit late with 400 stories now. I hope i can clock 600 stories before i go up Mount Kinabalu. At least that will give me about 1.5hrs of climbing time under the belt and see how i fare and how much is required for the actual race in 1st Oct.
After last week climb and today climb, i realised that if i go slow, i can definitely go many stories before tired out. I guess it is same as running, slow down from the start when the run is going to be long. Keep your heartrate at a comfortable level & i will do a decent timing. Next time, when i go for the climb, i gonna bring along my HRM and keep it around 60-70% and use it as a guide for training.
I remember i used to climb about 80% of HR and tired myself around 3-5 sets. Well same for running for short distance, HR should be high, whereas long distance HR should be lower.
Breathing also make a different, especially when the HR is high, breathing can assist to calm down and steady the progress.
As i do more climb, you tend to learn more about it. Hopefully that will put me good stead in the days to come.
