Mount Kinabalu Climbathon - Day 1 thoughts
5 of teammates today, 3 of them make it to the summit, sayang only 2 make it down in time before the cutoff time.
Have a few opportunity to speaks to them and have idea of what to expect. They timing to the summit for david and Yulan are very good, which give the rest of the team tomorrow some positive notes to look forward to.
David reach laban rata at 1:45hr whereas Yulan did 1:48hr. During last trip both did 1:57 and 2:05 respectively. Training timing wise is definitely slower than competition time isn't? I did 2:02hr for training, what will I do it tomorrow? Accordingly to david he didn't push alot for his climb yet.
Yulan did 10mins per km for first 2k, 15min per km for next 2k, 20 for next km. 70min for 5km.
What should I do tomorrow? Strategy?
Sim did his research that previous year only about 30 runners make the cutoff time, so he is going to chiong the first part to be within the top 20-30 runners and tap on their pace to go up. That is how he did it to come in third for Singapore marathon. Timothy is going to track sim from what I see.
Sim tracking method is too siong for me. I am not a speed demon. I am a slow heater. Chiong too fast early will kill me.
I am going to run the initial part and push for the next few km and see how far I can go. The aim is to reach laba rata at 1:30hr and 15min per km pace for first 6km. Then endure the final push to summit by 2:30hr.
I was told, i am require to reach 8.2km mark by 2:30hrs(unofficially) and the organiser will close an eye and allow you to push up to the summit. But if you cant make it by 4:30hr at the end point, you are going to DNF as well. At least better than making a u-turn earlier before midpoint right? If only I make it that far then see how things go.
Going to have an early night.
