CBD - 1st Anniversary

It started off as 9 runners coming together for a short run around in Marina. Boy, how it has grow from strength to strength. It has a strong follower throughout it short history. It was the most popular run event in Sgrunners with currently over 300 over pages.

History time: How CBD run come about?

Shortly before i ran my first KL marathon 2004, through web browsing i managed to locate Sportskaki. From there i get to know this run group that called itself 246 - which was lead by sxuanjing then. The run is to promote running within CBD area. Later Sportskaki pulled out from "sponsorship" the group. The run group still keep intact and lead by Sxuanjing. For about 1 year she painfully scarifice her running with Toa Payoh SAFRA running club to lead the run until it finally breakdown. I did managed to get a few running sessions with 246 before it was finally put to good rest.

Tiwazz and kops21(then) recognised that they are hugh potential in organsing a run in CBD to encourage more folks working in the area to run with us. Both of us are not working in CBD and thus lack the local run knowledge. Fortunately Sxuanjing come forward as volunteer with her vast knowledge of running routes. With that the 3 of them have officially kick started(CPR) CBD to life on 24 Jan 06

The aim is for anyone that wanted to run or start a healthy exercise lifestyle to join us. It is target to keep it at a distance of 6km to a max of 10km. It is meant to be slow pace with full of chitchat and laughter. One for the social run.

I am presonnally glad that the run is well recieve by many folks throughout the infant year. Without everybody support for the run, most probably the run would have died off.

Tomorrow 24 Jan mark the 1st CBD Anniversary. We decided to celebrate the special occasion today.

Picked up Tiwazz at IMM and we reached TP at 6:45pm. It was a large group today. Alot of familiar faces and a few new faces. Anyway, i very suaku, who new and old also dunno lah. Since they might have join the run in the past when i wasn't around, or join other runs prior to join cbd.

After some briefing, we start the run. We took the route(6km) that we first ran - 1 year back. I lead the run, while Tiwazz manage the rear end. I try to lead a slow pace to keep everybody intact. At the end there is still some strangle sheep behind. No choice lah, cannot have best of both world.

We came back to the start point and it seem the weather will changed bad anytime. Trencen and Tekko suggest we shift to a nearby "abandon" hawker centre about 50 meters away. After some discussion, we moved over. There are many food and drinks around to feed the hungry runners. I guess all if not most of the folks there take more than his normal share compare what what is expensed due to the run....:)

Aichai couldnt make it and send a special delivery of fried rice from one classic restaurant. The rice taste very good. Sotong make Sgrunners calendars and Sv make bookmark for some of the runners. It is great seeing other give without asking for anything in return. It is the kind of spirits that i find very good in Sgrunners. Give and Take, Love and Share

It was fun for me walking around catching up with so many runners to find out how are they. So many faces that i havent seem for many months turn up! I wish there are more occasions like this!

We have our sweet brownie birthday cake. It was very nice, i think i cut the sieze abit too much at the beginning and ended a few folks didnt have it. One of them i s ME! Nevermind as long as everyone enjoy the food is most important.

Special thanks to my fellow CBD run committee, Tiwazz and Sxuanjing. Without their continous support by the sideline, CBD will have die a natural death.

To many runners out there that have run CBD, i hope the journey is as good for us as for you. It always brighten our days when we see runners starting out(struggling abit) and at the end flying through the 10-20km races and gain better fitness at the mean time.

We stay until 9:20pm before we call it a day.

Pictures here and there.
