2nd day in HK
Had a late night, but couldn’t sleep much too! I do not know why. Woke up at 6:20am, left hotel at 6:55am and jog over to meet Heeshen, Piglet and their friend(forget name, update later).
The intention is to run around 5km today. Alamak, kena “discounted” again by someone! I don’t think we ran 3km! The weather wasn’t as cold as expected, therefore just wore normal tee/shorts for the run. Jog around Haiphong, Canton Road and Kowloon Park, with some small slopes along the way. The muscle behind the left knee seems to be a bit tight, both the shin a bit aches too during the run… hmm….
We departed after our leisure run/chit chat to our respective hotel. Bath and went for breakfast in a typical HK coffee shop! It is interesting whereby the set menu call for mixture of East/West meal. I have a plate of 2 eggs and toast, cha siew noodles soup & coffee in a set breakfast. I was gratefully that I have some continental food this morning, since I am tired of noodles leow.
We head to Mirmar Hotel after breakfast to pick up our Bib/goodies bag. We met up with Heeshen and the rest at the expo around 10am. Quite a number of other runners are there collecting their stuffs too. It was a case of hit and run for us. We came back to the Hotel to deposit the runner’s bag before we took MTR to Lantau Island to visit the Buddha.
At the base of Ngong Ping Skyrail we meet up with Heeshen and gang again. We didn’t make the trip together as our needs are different. We took cable car up the mountain, whereas Heeshen choose to take bus up. Wow, the view from the cable car is very nice, though a bit scary. I guess as we grow older, the heart get weaker!
The Buddha village is full of commercialism. Retail shops and some exhibition (with a cost implication) and temple are mix in the village. It took 100+ steps to climb to reach the Buddha statue. I try to do a slow jog up on the whim and found myself short of 3 flights of stairs before fatigue crept in! Haha. No warm up and run up! Have to spend some time catching my breath when I reached the top! I read the writing on the walls about the background and the enormous effort taken to built the statue. Anita Mui(HK actress) photos are inside as well. I do not know whether the urn is there or just a photo with a healthy donation that come with it.
We spend quite a fair bit of time on Buddha before we left there via cable car down to the mountain base. Saw Heeshen and the gang along the stairs towards Buddha statue. We are on our way down, while they are on the climb.
We took MTR and KCR to Shatin to visit Snoppy Place. Well, from my understand Snoppy Place is a shop within a shopping centre at Shatin. How wrong can I be! Yes, Snoppy Place took a small floor space in the shopping arcade inside Shatin. But it is more like a playground than anything else! There is no retail shop that sells Snoopy stuff! There are a few staffs to mend the Snoppy Place. Staff making balloon for kids, as well as taking care of the mini boat tour. We took a lot of photos there with various characters. Hehe..
We spend an hour or 2 shopping at Shatin. The place is pretty hugh, remind me of KLCC. Legs are tired and still have to drag along! I hope on Sunday my legs won’t fail me! Anyway, I shall do less stressful leg exercise tomorrow….:)
We went over to Wan Chai and experience the peak hours on MTR! Damn pack for sure, kena push like sardine to squeeze the cabins to allow other to move on. The door have to be shut 3 times(attempt to) before it is allow to proceed with the journey. The purpose of going Wan Chai is to go for the “toy street” to buy some toys for the niece and nephews.
When we reach Wan Chai is about 7:10pm. The haze problem have surfaced. I read on the slides on MTR stating that the PSI is around 55-70. The sky looks bad, especially again a black drop of a tall building, mechiam like a batman show! The shops have started to close for the day. There are still some shops operating still. We spend some time there, but isn’t much to see due to the timing. Saw my first Mahjong shop in HK there, just like those pictures on HK shows!
We went over to Causeway point aka Times Square. We wanted to eat/shop there, but the way they design the layout, it doesn’t suit our taste. The shops are mostly high ended stuff. The restaurant are packed on the basement and the rest of them on 11-13 floors are accessible be lift that is pretty long! We didn’t stay for long before we rush back to Nathan(Tsim Sha Tsui) trying to break the curfew 8:45pm. The reason our MTR(day pass) expire on 8:45pm. It was fun having to run or quicken our steps to beat the time. We left TST MTR exit at 8:43pm. It was closed! Haha.
We have dinner at the local coffee shop(like in the morning). Did a short walk along Nathan road, before calling it a day. Legs are tired, time for a rest….:)
