Old is Golden?
Have a good discussion with a friend whom i known for many years. We have been constantly in touch during these years. We face many similarities in life and work. He is leaving for a new oversea job soon.
We touch on many aspects of work and our life. Our path so far, and the road looking forward.
One item that we discussed is about our bread and butter issue. Don't talk about royal, don't talk about good working environment. What matter at the end of the day is the pay package that you get at the end of the month.
Company normally try to keep cost down by trying to deny your market value. Especially the old staff, or those that slug with the company during the bad times. These are the folks that are affected the most. Why is it that normally when you joined a new company, you tend to get bigger pay package? Or put it the other way round, could you normally join a new company if the pay is lesser that current package? I could expect a normal sane person will work for better pay package.
This friend of mine give an interesting analogy. Everyone know about wedding dowry. For example when you get marry, a wedding dowry of a car is given to you by the family of significant half. You work hard and own your own car. The question is which car will you treasure the most? Which car will you do your own polish and take good care of it? Being human, we tend to treasure those that we work hard to get it. We neglect those that we have taken for "free" or granted.
What does this analogy means? Old staff are left on its own, whereas new staff are well taken of?
I am glad of the conversation with my old friend. We share our thoughts and our perception in life.
I hope we can still keep in touch while you are oversea....Good luck my friend.
