MR - Seletar Run
The last time i ran this route, i felt bad during the run. I didn't complete the run. I have to dig with the last ounce of the reserve to run/crawl back from upper thomson road. I punchet on the run.
It is suppose to be a 28km this morning along MR - Seletar route. But i only arga arga and the distance would be 30-32km. I wouldn't be surprise.
After yesterday drink+ late night, i was abit concern how i am going to fair today, with the last MR-Seletar run still fresh in the memory. Furthermore this morning, i have no appetite for any pre-run "breakfast"! So i took a few glasses of water and an apple instead.
I started the run around 6:40am with Lionel and Cosmic. Tao, Mossie and Kelly start later.
It was a rather slow first part of the run emerging out of the forest towards SICC. The theory given is that since we are doing longer distance today, so the run pace have to be longer! Haha...
Our pace must really be slow today, when you head towards the metal gate of Pierce reservoir after completing our "air-con" route, we saw Kelly coming back from the metal gate! We were all surprise to see Kelly as she suppose to start behind us! How did she sneak past us without us noticing? After speaking to Kelly at the end of the run, the conclusion is that we are too SLOW!
After bypassing the metal gate of Pierce reservoir we proceed towards Upper Thomson, Mandai Road, Seletar Reservior. Along the way, hedgehog shouted out as he cycle with a group of friends. I also find Lionel behaving a bit strange. Little did i realise he is having tummy problem. We proceed to Seletar Reservior and take a short breather at the end of the route near the toilet. By then Lionel have recover, but it is my turn to have some problem with the tummy. Alas, the toilet is being wash during that time, so we couldn't use it.
We proceed back towards Mandai road via Executive Golf Club. I was surprise to see about 20-30 pax waiting to tee off from the green. I believe that should be the 1st tee off! I was feeling drain, legs are aching and i have this dread feeling i gonna ended up walking for much of the remaining road! I took a packet of powergel(i couldn't recall which rare occasion i took one!) along the way back to Lower Pierce. According to Lionel's footpod, we have clock 20km when we reach the gate. We can either proceed to complete the MR25 20km route or take a short cut back via the northern route and make it back in 28km as plan. With Cosmic as witness, Lionel choose the longer route that is 30km.
Along the way back to Ranger station, we have overtaken Tao along the slope. She hor, start to walk during the slope part of the 2 heartbreak hills and kena spotted by us! Haha...that is what she claimed! By then the powergel have kicked in and i feel very strong back to the toilet. I stayed at the toilet for a longer time as Lionel went to release some load as his tummy continue to trouble him. Taking the opportunity Cosmic and myself did some stretching. In fact, the more i stretched the more i feel i am going to cramp up!
After releasing the load, Lionel start to fly!(as expected). Cosmic was drop as his legs are cramping up, and left me with Lionel partnering back. I was still feeling good, maybe the effect to the powergel is still providing the boost. We charged up the slope after SICC, which we haven't been doing for the past few runs in MR. It was a nice changed. Along the way, saw Tao again and she is going very strong, despite doing 25km on the first time. She will do good, when 42km come to town.
The last few km after 2.5km is tough for me, as i think the powergel effect have worn off and i have to dig deep in the reserve to run even a decent pace. I tried to run, but somehow i just couldn't without pushing up the heart rate. Maybe it is during this time whereby the body switching the energy usage to "burning fat" that i feel uncomfortable. Or maybe i ran too fast during this part(according to Lionel, we are going at 5:30min pace at time), which i am totally unaware of. I signal to Lionel to move ahead as i need to take water break. Gamely he power ahead to the finishing line. I took a few walk breaks till the end point as i keep telling myself to slow down and don't need to push as tomorrow another LSD(bike) awaits! I finished the run in 4:02 hr. I could have complete in 4hr if i didn't "walk"....haha...
Kelly and Taz are there waiting for us at the carpark. We chit chat and rest before Tao and finally Cosmic came back.
We wash up and proceed for Wantan Mee Noddle at Kovan. Kelly and Cosmic have other appointment and didn't join us.
Accordingly to footpod, we clock 29.91km. And that person consume 7 wantan! Still claiming that he has more output than input! 1 Wantan - 1 slope! He only clock about 4!(slope only counts after 20km!)
