DNF
Did Not Finish
In training, when the going get tough, it is ok to skip, regroup and try it again.
How do we deal in race when the going get too tough?
Well, a lot of people can talk about a lot of stuffs, like listening to your body, think of your family……… what they didn’t tell you is that have they DNF before? How much training they put in and how much the event mean to them?
If you spent many months preparing for an event. Spent thousand of dollars getting ready for the event and the unfortunate thing happen on the race. Will you give up if you can help it by saying NO?
Imagine you are in middle of Boston Marathon or KONA IM. Your very first after “miraculous” qualify for it. You twisted your ankle on 1st 10km and couldn’t run anyway! Will you give up? I am sure, giving up is very painful.
Imagine you are joining a 5km race. After 1km, you pulled your hamstring badly. Will you continue? Majority will give up.
When the stake is high, it is even more painful to DNF. In fact, it takes a very brave person to make the decision to DNF. The stigma might haunt you for life!
I recall back during my IM China. Many times I am on the verge of throwing down the towel. Did I make the right choice to continue? I am glad that I finished though.
Everyone have his threshold. What is top on the list and consider high “stake” is individual. Nobody should take away your decision to SAY NO.
I read this article, which sort of related to what I have gone through. It is nice to know…there is another “crazy” person out there.

I agree totally. It's easy to give up but long term maybe a better choice. The ego and the competitive self nature says we keep going. Slowly we learn when to give up and when to keep going!
