North East Run 2010

Date: 14 March 2010
Time: 6:45am
Distance: 16km
Venue: Pasir Ris Park(Carpark C)
Route - Pasir Ris Park - Temasek Poly - Pasir Ris Park

It wasn't on the radar. 16km. Hmm...odd distance. What intrigue me...is..

It is held at Pasir Ris Park(i am staying over at Costa Sand(Pasir Ris)). 2nd some of the gang are doing the event. 3rd, i need a short run, and the distance(though short) is better than nothing. 4th, i manage to get a "free" entry, thanks to Sgrunners.

I woke up at 5:50am. Left for the event at 6:10am. Took a slow 10mins+ walk to the start point. No need to rush and find carpark. Just a casual walk. A nice change which i appreciate. The only thing that come close is Desaru event.

A small race. It started promptly at 6:45am. I crossed the start line about a couple of mins back. Pretty soon, came across FBB. Long time didn't see him on the circuit. Kind of good to see him again.

Less than 2km, i was stopped at the track by the traffic light. Hmm....shortly i saw someone in yellow flashing by...wonder is that my buddy. :p

It was a slow run as the run was impede by the large crowd, traffic lights, staircase climbing. Don't have much expectation, just a decent LSD. But given the nature of human, a little faster would be prefer.

Meet up with Alvin(gatecrash) and run together from his home(Tampines) to Temasek Poly and back. The sun was out in full blast and humidity is high. Climbing up the staircase 3 in a row, neatly climb up the stairs is amazing! Army style of marching up the stairs! With the more aggressive ladies couldn't wait for an opportunity to force her way through.

For whatever reason, the effort is decent for 16km. But the pace is like hmmm....LSD! Abit disappointing and i start to struggle along. But 16km, surely i can take the distance.

Reached the 8km mark in 56mins. Take it a step at a time. Slow and steady the distance get closer to the end. Decide to push up the pace after 13km to try and make it under 1:50hr.

I have the suspicion that the distance is short over the last few km as i completed the run in 1:45hr! Based on my per km calculation, it should be 1:50hr. Alas, distance is short.

Queue for water is okay. The ice cream run out when i reached there. Damn!

It was a good run nevertheless. At times just have to accept what is given.

The intent of the run, is to run around North East neighbour and yes, it meet the objectives. I also know that crossing overhead bridges and traffic lights stop are part and parcel of it, so wasn't that disappointed.

Indeed it was a great 16km run even though we have to cross a total of 5 overhead bridges. On my GPS it shows exactly 16.01km but i think it further if you count the distance it took us to climb the stairs. Good Sunday Morning Run (:
Keep Running!

Kops21,

Yah, was a good run. But I managed to get a icecream. Complete the race in 1 hr 44 min, just one min ahead.

Ha, didn't know there is a lucky draw though, so left home early before the lucky draw.

I think that the coming back route (after the Temasek Poly) may seem shorter because of the distance marker. After Temasek Poly(coming back route), there is a marker for 12, 13,14,15 km.

The overhead bridges makes the run tougher, it is great effort to
climb up the long stairs and it stop the runing momentum.

minicopper, it is a good sunday workout irregardless of the distance.

Bisonbeauty, stairs and bridges are heaven to myself as it provide an opportunity to take a break. :)

When you are tired, any excuses for a walk is welcome. On the other side of the coin, even a slower jogger is a hinder.

Christyne,

Run and smoking don't go hand in hand normally. Next time, just overtake them and let them smell your "dust".
