How fast to run around 260 Meters?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

According to Fastlane, Singapore have a ruling that all buildings cannot exceed 280 meters in height. I do not have the answer to how high swissotel The Stamford is apart from knowing it is 73 storeys and 1336 steps, but i reckon it is closed to the 3 buildings but not on the same level. I estimated at a height of 260 metres. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Today is the Vertial Marathon 2005 event. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Venue: Raffles City
Time: 08:42(Men 30-39 Category)
Distance: 73 Storeys(1336 steps)

I was there with Pheck Leng at Raffles City around 7:50am. Quite a handful of sgrunners are there taking part as well. I met yankee, tiwazz, brokenrunner, meteor, runalone, fastlane, fastlane's wife, fastlane's friend, commando, mythos, taz, cookie, runwithme, la0kayu, sanji82, freddy, phishy(organiser), bselby0,shaunzer, Alvo(makan) & Penguin(makan).

It was drizzling almost whole of the morning. The starting point is wet, so does is the queue for the registeration, anway it is a small drizzle and nothing much to spolit the exciting mood in the air.

Runalone, tiwazz, yankee, fastlane, fastlane's friend and myself are in the detail of 8 that was ushered into the starting lineup by phishy. Off we went and runalone with one guy surge forward. Anyway we are there for some fun and we are going to take easy. Slowly i climbed up the staircase. I have a good momentum upwards. In between floors there is a flat road about 5meters in which we have to run across before climbing the next flight up the stairs for the first 40 storeys. I was pretty okay when i hit 40 and was feeling the strain when the route change to a typical HDB staircases. The transistion is difficult and although i have mentally known about the changes along the routes(staircases), somehow the body isnt train for such changes. I struggle for a few flights of stairs and decided to walk up while pulling the rails that i have been training for. This method came in handy as i push on while not losing too much ground.

Throughout the climb, the air is okay, not as bad as i heard co2 is abundant and difficult to breath. I was feeling okay throughout the climb. Around 50-60 storey, i have recovered enough to start jogging up. I make a couple of stairs whereby i decided i don't wish to push too hard and keep on walking whilst pulling up. I am here for the experience and fun. Overall I overtook at least 10 or more folks along the climb & i dont get anyone overtaking myself. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

On 60 storeys and above i was stuck in the jam whereby around 5-10 folks blocking my way and i have to make bigger loop to overtake some which is annoying. Finally when i reach 70 storey the aircon(from Equinox) sank in(by the opening doors) and i knew we are almost there. I make a dash up and reach the ending point at 11:14mins. I stayed on top with the rest of the guys and gers taking photos. I was walking around, so that i dont look very healthy and chased down by the organiser which officially we are allowed 10mins on top. OMG, the view from the top is just beautiful with light drizzle which make it more special. I took lots of pictures. I think i stayed there with the rest on top for almost 30mins or more. In fact the beautiful photographer keep looking at me until i almost paiseh. Maybe i look sleepy......after climbing up....haha....Image hosted by Photobucket.com

On top, runwithme approach myself asking me if i am from sgrunners. I have to do a quick search of the database and thinking who this person is...until he introduce himself as runwithme that it dawn on myself that i have seem him before in WHR at Macritchie Reservoir and he is from KL. Yes, i remember that he is coming over for Vertical Marathon and Standard Chartered Marathon next month. I introduce to every sgrunners i can find on top of the building. We took some pictures, exchange his experience in Malaysia Vertical Marathon(over 2000+ steps). Runwithme didnt stay for long as he needs to leave spore at 4pm later on and leave the scene early.

We came down, rest and took our certification and wait for those taking part in open races instead of aged group. We waited for a long while. Even Penguin make a trip down to meet us for lunch at Kilinery Kopitaim along Purvis Road. We have a good makan session, chit chat and enjoy our accompany. Alvin join us after his 35km run for a short run before we departed our way.

Metero and Brokenrunner did very well for the ladies event. The rest of the sgrunners did well as well. We went up together and came down in 1 piece with more left in reserve, just a short sunday morning lazy run.
