SGRunners 1st Anniversary

SGRunners 1st Anniversary

I received an invite from thelonelyrunner many moons ago to join a forum. Not knowing what the heck is it, i didn't bother to register. It was much later through Penguin that informed me there are some activites going on and it was discussed on the web setup by thelonelyrunner. Wanting to get more details about the event, i register and joined the forum - SGRunners

It was a simple and young forum that try to gather all Singapore runners blogger. It has a handful of runners which are mainly into long distance runners - 42.195km finisher. Thus making up of the core discussions. In fact, SGRunners have more long distance runners than the shorter distance. Any newbie joining the forum, will get infected with the running bug and try the long distance(42km) sooner or later.

From a humble beginning with around 50 runners, we move from our old premises(website) to current website to give it a more meaningful presence. Soon after, i was invited to join the moderators team. It was a nice to be part of a team in this ever growing forum. It was a kampung atmosphere environment that make this uquie. It was an open heart giving and sharing forum. There are some babbling here and there, but for good cause.

25 June is our SGRunners 1st Anniversary, but we decide to celebrate our birthday on 24 June, many months back. After getting the primary approval from our founder, the moderators went to planning and executing our 1st Anniversary BBQ cum Birthday Bash. It was a good exercises whereby moderators chip in their time/effort to make this an occassion a success and in the process, bring each other closer.

It was a good opportunity to meet up so many SGRunners in one go. Runners take part in different runs can meet up with other from another and put a face to a nick. We have around 40+ runners attended the birthday bash. Despite the downpour(unexpected) around 3-4:30pm, amazing race move on as plan. Sotong have come up with "inhuman" games plan !!!! dot.dot.dot.

Bit by bit, everything goes into the groove as more people arrived. Some just took the skewer and start BBQ-ing for themselves or others. No need to ask, no clearance required. Making himself/herself just like home. It was a warm sight. Everybody talks to everybody and who knows some sparks might flies... who har?

We have our birthday cakes( it seems the trend here is 1 cake is not enough), lucky draw and prizes giving sessions. It is great to see many folks just drop in to say hi either in the afternoon or late in the evening and before/after their event.

During this infant year, we have been through our fair share of growing pains. For a while we struggle, moderators will understand better, but we bite the bullet and push on. It was not an easy journey. Every SGRunners have play a part to make this running kampung that is trully Singapore.

Happy Birthday SGRunners
