Wedding Run
The union of a couple is one of the wonderful thing in life. This run is delicated to Alvo and Metero BIG day . I have crossed the path and though i grumble at times, i still love my sweetheart.
Alot of runners have put in effort to make it a joyful event. The tins(dragging with a line), the water/food(Thanks to Ultraman), the gadgets, organiser(Brokenrunner) and many more that i took it for granted. It is my pleasure to be part of this lovely event and enjoy the accompanies and the games/fun that we had along the way.
It was a hazy week for the entire week and there are not much opportunity to run given the circumstances. No matter what, i woke up at 3:40am today to do a run prior to Wedding Run. After this weekend, i have 2 more weeks to NYC marathon, can't slack "too" much now.
I reached Lower Pierce Reservior at 4:30am. It was dark and the weather isn't clear. I wouldn't say is it because of the haze, morning mist or my lens are blurred. My lens are getting a bit uncomfortable with me these few days, which i believe is caused by the haze particles.
Upon arrival at the carpark i put on some eye drops to relieve the discomfortable. Alas it actually leads me to lose one of the contact len ! My eyeball are big and the len have a tendency to play hide and seek inside at times. At times it is easy to coax it back to postition, others it just refuse to come back until much later when it is in the mood to do so.
Have quite a few early runners today - Ultraman, tktan, brokenrunner, bug, cheow, cookie, francis, hoho & 1 more superfast runner(nobody seem to know the nick!). We started off towards the zoo via thomson road, mandai road around 4:50am. The group started off at a pretty fast pace and immediately Francis, heeshen and myself are stranded behind.
I was very quiet today, as i am running with 1 eye !!! Cant see clearly and was affected by the initial pace? Haze or not use to the terrain? Sigh.... I was half asleep as well !!!
We took a breather at the start of the Mandai road(old Post Office). After that we run along the road leading towards the Zoo. The cool mist and dark atmosphere make the run interesting. Heeshen brief us on the number of slopes ahead and the newly erected speed stripes that make cycling difficult. Anyway, his explaination is abit out his reasoning is that cycling don't feel the slope, but running on foot does.
We are surprised when brokie and tktan overtaken us nearly to the entrance of the zoo, as they are far ahead with the front running group. Later did we realised we have not taken the additional loop, no idea where they turn in. The distance is not 24km,i reckon about 22km we did today.
We meet the later group of runners along mandai road, anthony, david, fennel, fennel's friend, gentle and another lady runner.
We have a water break at the U-Turn point at the traffic junction turning into the Zoo. The time is 2:14hrs.
We chitchat and run our pace back the same way as we make our journey here. It was a long run ahead and fortunately i have 2 kakis to run together. It was good to have runners around the same pace and push/motivate each other along. We have another water stop at Post office(1st water break point).
We cross SLE flyover and we are OTOT back to the start point. I believe we are less than 50 meters apart the entire journey back to lower pierce carpark with a large group of runners waiting to start the Wedding run. It took us 1:14hr for the return journey as well. We rehydrate ourself at the carpark and awaits for the Wedding Run that is the theme of the day.
We have so many runners that i have lost count of who is who leow...We have a large gathering of runners today.
There are lots of photo takings, video taking(tktan), and amuse ourself and others(watching us) as we run towards the other lower pierce toilet at the reservior. I don't know who's idea is that, but we "make up" the wedding couple pretty good. Especially the wedding tins that run drag on the road and make all sort of noises. Fortunately the residents don't come out and chase after us.
We started off running with the couple holding hands and the rest of the runners follow suit(running nia). As we run along, the tins came off due to wear and tear. The run was halted on few occassions(we have 8 tins) while the couple have to go through hurdles laided down by the runners.
We have quiz for the couple, doing salsa along the road, piggy back, muaking as well when the tins came off.
The pace of the run is start/stop by all these activities. It was relieve for the tiring muscles or is it the other way round, it make the muscles tired.
Along one of the incline slope, Alvo have to piggy back metero all the way the slope. It was a superhuman effort from Alvo part.
We arrived at the reservior with 100plus, water melon galore awaits while we have a "party" there.
We have laughter and fun there. The traditional flower throwing from the bride was relunctantly recieved by BEE ! Any male single runner out there, please go and queue up for Bee....
The engine get a bit of difficulties getting started while heading point. We have stop and rest for about 30mins, that was expected. If possible i believe nobody would like to run back! Anyway, i finally reach the carpark in 1 piece.
It was a good run today. Let wait for the photos update from the rest of the cameras.
