JPMorgan Corporate Chase 07 - Get Out Of My Way
This is the 4th JPMorgan Corporate Chase in Singapore. It is also my 4th attempt!
JPMorgan Chase is my first official running event since i started my workout 3 years ago. For 5.6km, it is ideal for someone started off running. It bring back memories of the days where i started running in event...It was not like yesterday, but was like ages ago....:)
This year the event is held on 3rd May 2007. 11,000 turnout for the event according to the organisation.
The organisation promise better support, blab blab blab, with a whopping S$35 registration fees, i hope they DO IT! With the same amount i could have taken part in some of the local 42km(Marathon) or regionally!
It rained in the afternoon, by the time the race start at 6pm, it had stopped. As usual for the past few years, the field is very muddy(I have a hard time washing the shoe just now!) and the walking crowd continue to pose the same problem again!
My office send out 12 runners(in which 11 turn up). The aim for me is to beat Steve. I think it will tough for me, but i aim to complete the race around 27 mins.
The organise new method of organising runners and walkers are pretty good. At least i find that more walker do not go and queue in the front. But there are still A LOT of those buay paiseh type that push way forward to the way! I might be making a sweeping statement here, but with the kind of body "shape", there is no way they are going to it under 25 mins for 5.6km! These are clearly walkers trying to block the path ahead!
I reached the start line about 40 seconds after the start. As usual i was block by the slower runners in front. Why people just do not listen to instruction and start at the pen where they are suppose to? What are you going to gain by going to the front? Your few seconds early start will cause hundreds of seconds delay for all the runners aggregate together! This is damn selfish!
Although not unexpected, i have to accept that this is part and parcel of JPMorgan Corporate Chase! I do not like to take part in any running event that is less than 10km due to the large portion of walker will be taking part. Alas, my company require me to be part of the team!
I have to brush aside runners as i overtake them in tight situation at times.I also have to slow down or stop at my track behind many runners and cause my momentum to break. I keep telling myself to push the pace abit instead of running slow behind the slower runners and wait for opportunity to be open up.
Distance marking 1km - 5km is not accruate! I was running with sightly "out of breath", reach first 1km in 6 mins+! Cannot be la, i should be faster than this! 2km is 10:14 mins. Hmm.....3km is 14 mins+, 4km is 17 mins+! 5km is 25 min, 5.6km is 26:59 sec
There is an incident on the run, which i lost my cool, I raised my voice on 2 unfortunately ladies walker! It was slightly around 4km mark which these 2 ladies decide to take a short cut via going over the road divider and walk back to stand point, side by side, chit chatting!
First you cheated, by going across the divider, 2nd u think the road is your grandfather! Suka walk and chit chat! The road is pretty narrow and you are occupying the valuable space! I do not know what came over me and i raise my voice and ask the ladies to walk by the side of the road! One of the lady buay song, so speak back. I couldn't hear what she said, as i am already left them in the dust.
The organiser saw both the ladies go across the divider and do nothing about it! What the use of the organiser? Stand there, close an eye and act as though nothing have happen! WTF! IDIOT!
I finished the run within 27 mins which is my intended target. I am glad the ordeal of running in crowded street is over.
The ending point whereby the drink and fruits stall are muddy and i can hear the curse and swear as everybody cross over to get the stuffs.
I was surprised to learn that i have finished 4 places in the team of 11 person. I am glad that my colleagues are help in the team event. Hopefully more colleagues(fast runner) can come over to help the team next year, so that i can be spared the agony of taking part in another JPMorgan event!
