Cadence - If you're relatively new to cycling, you are probably riding at a cadence that is below your optimum. Most new riders think they are getting a better workout if every pedal stoke is a strain and the quads are burning. Although there's a place for low-cadence workouts, during a normal aim for a smooth spin at between 85-100 rpm (pedal revolutions per minute) which is much more efficient -- and easier on the legs, especially the knees.

extract from the web.

Higer cadence lower gear(smaller wheel) it means faster? Higher gear(more difficult to paddle) and naturally lower cadence means slower speed? Nope...there is a balance somewhere in between the 2.

From running, i like slow and steady pace... i can go slow for a long period of time. Likewise i can do slow cadence on easy and hard biking.Increase the cadence i will struggle.

With this mind, I head into today bike in the gym. To increase my cadence with light resistance. I put myself at 80(average) or higher. It was a bit difficult for me as i am not use to it. It was refreshing for the 50 mins ride.

I do not know this is good or bad at this junction to change the cadence. It is always bad to change so before an event, as your body need to adapt to the new demand and might get injure over the course.
