Learn to Swim
Body ache this morning when i do my customary stretch before coming out from bed. I guess yesterday extended weights workout haven't recover yet....:(
Head for the gym as usual. Unlike last week, expectation is to clock mileage, this week is more like maintenance or warming up for the weekend Fuji Xerox 5km openwater swim.
Water is pretty warm despite the rain around 3-4 am this morning, according to the radio report.
It was a struggle at the beginning few hundreds, felt like giving up. Weak mind? Maybe so lah, "tapering" mah, have to slack abit right...keke....
I bite it and force it through. After a while the breathing stabilise and it went smoothly. It wasn't an easy swim in any mean, likewise it is not that tough as well. I was secretly praying that i have the strength to hit the target i miss last week. Likewise, have to listen to the body on how it react, event is coming Sunday, no point pushing and mishap happen!
First 10 sets of 2oo meters circuit. Still feeling okay, let move on. Have a lady swimmer next to me that is going at similar pace, so pull up and stroke by stroke we go together. She is a much stronger swimmer than myself, after a couple of hundred meters, she have enough fun and drop me! It is okay lah, at least keep me occupied for a while is also good!
15 sets of 200 meters circuit completed. This was the point last week that the body breakdown and i have to change to breast stroke to finish up the last 500 meters. This time round i tell myself to be strong. Try to use front crawl, you need it in year end event. I have to learn, even though it might be slower.
I believe i did get slower by the laps. I don't really care, just keep on going. I can feel my heads getting heavier, lesser lifting up of the head to see if someone is on collision course. Breathing wise is fine, arms are pretty good as well, legs are abit tired.
I can feel myself tired as i push on at a comfortable pace towards 20 sets of 200 meters. I have come so far, i have to complete the distance, no matter how long it gonna take! Finally i reached the end in 1:47 hr. A sigh of relief. 4km!
I feel my head a bit groggy after the swim. Feel tired. I believe i have dehydrated badly during the swim. Not that i don't take it the pool water(accidentally), but i lost too much and didn't replenish at all.
Glad that i have this swim and need to learn from this especially on hydration.
