24 April 2010 - The Walk
This time round, I am more prepare compare to last week. 5 of us started the run this evening, 6pm+ from F2 (ECP).
Our guest runner looks like a bunny, happily running faster and further away. For the first couple of km, I was abit distracted. Knowing that I can’t keep up with the pace, I have to slow down.
I don’t know if the other 2 get affected, but I am keeping my normal pace(about 6:30), whereas they also move further away from me when we reached the fire station. Felt like a bit struggling, but shouldn’t be as my pace seems okay, just that the 2 in front are running like 6min pace.
For a short break, I decide to walk abit…and well…don’t know what happen. we walk a little bit more than we have asked.
I know that I can walk under 10min pace without over straining and not too shabby over long distance. I have done it in IM events and It is time to let the rest of them taste it out. Well, for the next 32km, we walk.
I am not going to kid myself that for the event coming up, we are going to run all the way. I have doubt that I will run 2/3 of the distance event. Some part of the race we have to walk. By walking at a pace that we know we can have a good indication on how badly we can perform on that day.
When we come back to F2, I willfully changed to slippers and walk. Wow…it does feel more spacious, but much more difficult to walk! Have to bare with it. Body feels okay, just the legs are abit tiring. Slow and steady back at F2. Almost 2 hours gone in a blip of an eye.
This evening or rather morning, Joanna has bravely volunteered to support us. In fact, her supports have given us numerous boosting along the way. It could have been that much harder if wasn’t for her.
We decide to get back on our running for the last 8km. It wasn’t that bad as we take off. For another hour run.
Slightly less than 8hrs with all kind of breaks thrown in, we finally finished our intended distance. Though the distance from GPS shown 48.9km. My feel it is 50km as the GPS seems to be acting slightly strange.
Time to rest for another long run next week.
