Post DNF

I am dissapointed for not finishing the run on Saturday. Life still goes on.

I have arrange with my colleague to run at Macritchie Reservior on Sunday. He SMS(on saturday) me he can't make it as he forget he has another appointment. He is trying to pick up his running again, after stopping for a few years...he is getting overweight....but he is a FAST runner(PB less than 1:30hr for Half Marathon)...his distance is around 3km currently. He needs someone to push him, he told me, and i glad if i can help him in anyway for another runner to get his motivation and bring the running joy back.

My mind still playing trick(lack of motivation) whether to wake up early again to run.( i trying to cultivate myself to have a late wakeup one day for each week)...Anyway off i went to Macritchie Reservior for the run.

Reach MR slightly before 7am. The usual crowd is there. There is an event(C&C company event)today. The aim today is to run 1xbig loop(10k) and a 1x small lop(4.8k). I have never do anything more than 1 big loop in MR before, since i have concern over injuries. I tend to run with my eyes closed....sob...sob.....

Since i DNF yesterday, i think it will be nice to run 1big/1small loop to make up the disappointment. Another concern i have is that i have not run in MR for 1 month plus...i dont know whether i can still capable of doing it. Anyway soon i will know. If thing doesn't look bright along the way, i just bailed out after 1 big loop....

Off i go....i run conservatively due to yesterday event and not knowing how the body will react to MR again. I leave Ranger Station after the water break around 29mins. Did the big loop running along Lornie Road and reach the start point of the 4.8km route at slightly slower than 1:02hr. Feeling good, i push on for the 4.8km route. Reach halfway of the 4.8km around 13mins. which is okay i feel the pace. Reached the end at the carpark on a slight galloping pace and concluded the run at 1:29:30

It is a good run, i am feeling ok...not overly strain and looking fresh....hehe......

Today i appreciate the run in Macritchie that i have had before. Along the route, i have to push on when going upslope and relax when going downslope. I particularly appreciate the upslope as it "train" you. Unlike road running, it is very flat & u don't tend to have some burst of speed along the way. Maybe i getting to love the slope....hehe....;)

DNF - Weekend Log (End July)

What is DNF? In running, it means Did Not Finish ...not a tag that any runner want to wear....;)

Saturday there were 4 of us running at Kallang/Esplande. Poh have decided to join us for a run. Even though it was only 10k, he had made a great adjustment, as he normally do only 5-6k. He finished around 1:08 which was very good indeed. Great run Poh.....

Due to the time factor, and i will like to make back roughly the same time as the rest of the folks, i can't run longer distance, but i can do more quality training instead. The intention was to run 20k maybe pushing to 22k. So i brought out my "camelbag" put in 3/4 litre of water and run with it.

Abit of histroy with the "camelbag"....i brought it a few months back when i am training for JP Morgan event. It is a "high serra brand" waterbag which i walked past Sports Connection at Bishan Junction 8 one day and saw it pretty reasonable price and since wanting to purchase one for so long(put off by the price tag), have decided to get it.

I use the waterbag to train on Macritchie Reservior 4.8km route. Due to the short distance, i don't really feel that great impact of carry the "camelbag" even though i have 1 litre of water then.

After witnessing another runner carry the waterbag and ran 16k on it a week before, it dawn on myself that i can put in some quality training on the shorter distance, thus the resurface of the "camelbag".

The aim on Saturday(LDR) was to run with the camelbag for 10km(back at the car), dump the bag and continue another loop(10km). Maybe next time push 20km with the bag....;) Let see how first lah...

After a short distance of 1-2km, i can feel the strain. My legs abit wobble. Maybe because i have not run with this weight for a long time, anyway i can still take it and since i have started running what can i do? I make the first loop(1ok) back at the car around 1:05hr, left the bag behind, take a few slip of H2O isotonic drink and just nice to run with Francis on the 2nd loop.

My body is abit tired. Even after the bag is taken off, i can still feel the weight within myself...maybe it is mental, maybe i have overstretch abit....i do not know. This feeling, i had experienced before in Army(when i did my ROD road march(42km)). I took up the 84mm Recoiless Rifle(plus the rest of my equipments) and walk with it for about 2km. After passing the weapon to another platoon mate, i continue to walk the other 2km to the next rest point. I have to struggle with the "weight" & it seem so strange that i am feeling that...

I was telling myself, this is going to be temporary and let run with it, the feeling should go away. I told Francis to continue forward, i need more time to recover. Somehow the heart and body just don't response so well. I took walk breaks trying to recover and slow jog to get the momentum back, but somehow it is not working. Looking forward another 9km to go. I have decided then that it is not worth pushing on and might get myself injury over. I have to stop and walk back to the car. I will survive to run another day.

Well DNF....it happens sometime.....but not like this....

Went with Francis and Simon to Kilinery Kopitiam at Raffles Hotel nearby for breakfast...brought 4D and off to Macpherson area for Mizuno warehouse sales. Difficult to find 02B unit leh...anyway find it and brought a pair of shoe(mizuno wave spacer)...the shoe damn lightweight...feel very shiok. Francis brought similair set too.....hehe.....unfortunately the running short does not have matching for the tops or else i would have purchase a set of running attire as well.....

SWIM & RUN ?

SWIM & RUN – New Balance Aquathlon…800metre swim and 5km run on 4th September 05

I don’t have a bike and the excuse for not taking part in OSIM or Pork Dickson Triathlon. This is a Swim and Run, and I have did it before in the pool and road a few months back, I think I should have no problem finishing it, except for the amount of seawater I gonna consume on that day…;) I ought to venture out and go for it.

Went for a swim yesterday at Queenstown Swimming Complex with Xuanjun. If not, I would have done the swim in Clementi instead. The feeling was different if you have kaki to swim with, even though she do her own kicking, whereas I am on the other pool doing laps. Meet some of the swimming kaki there, Mothar was there too….I guess it is time I go back for my Monday training…..

Did 1.5km swim for the first time after a long period. Dunno why, after a few laps, the engine warm up and I cruise through the remaining laps…I could have done more laps…as I find it require decent effort….maybe I am just having a good swim that’s all.

Tuesday went for speed workouts at Clementi Stadium. I had a good run, in terms of the timing, I wonder whether the watch battery required to be changed..;) Did 2km warm up, follow by 5x 800metres. It was good. An interesting event occurred was that there was this Indian guy(pretty stout) that was running laps…and I am on my last 800meter workout while I overtake him( I think he did a few laps prior), he does not like it and kick in & eventually it turn out to be a duet. I ran as fast as I could until I reached my 800 meter marks, whereas he continue for about 100 meters and slow down to his normal pace and continue with his routine. It is nice to have some competition to push you abit here and there to keep the motivation up.

My swimming is decent currently, i need to go back for training and push on to greater height...

KL Marathon 2005

A journey that starts after Standard Chartered Marathon Dec 04. Did it end in KLIA March 05?

A word from “ADIDAS” -
Impossible Is Nothing

Date: 6 March 05
Event: KLIA Marathon 2005
Time: 0500
Distance: 42.195km

It is a milestone for myself, being the very FIRST Marathon that I had taken part.
Looking back, I just want to proof to myself that if Millions can do the Marathon, so can i? Even though I am not a runner, to be actual an average guy round the block, but I definitely have the ability to complete a Marathon with some serious trainings.

Off I go, weeks after weeks, finding motivations among the lonely night or morning to do my own running. Waking up 5 in the morning is no fun. Running alone is no good. Crossing the finish line will make up for the lonely road ahead i hope.

Strategy for the Big Day

Being my first Marathon, I will be conservative and completion of the run is the key matter. Timing will come secondary when I get more experienced. I will run conservative, walk at all water sessions & if the slopes (expected to be many along the way) are tough, I will walk. Avoid the “WALL” (those who are experience running will understand) at all cost. Expected to complete the run around 4:50-4:55hrs.

To the race actual

4:15am, I have reached Dataran Merdeka alone. I took me around 15mins walked from my Hotel(Impiana) to the venue. Among the crowd, I managed to locate Sukaimi(The lonely Runner) and some of the runners(from Singapore). There are so many people that I couldn’t remember their names(forgive me, I am bad at names).

Before the run, it always good for a nature call first. We tried to find a loo, but to no avail. No choice, we just went behind one of the tree and do some gardening. One of Singapore runner is female and poor gal, she has to endure. I don’t know whether she manage to release the pressure along the run, but it is damn frustrating to carry a full load and run around.

On the starting block, we meet more familiar faces, especially the KL Penguins. Finally get to meet Penguin 6 after these months.

At 5am sharp, the clockl at Dataran Merdeka struck and the race is off. We started off ok. I ran conservatively, a lot of people overtook myself(get use to it already). Along the way, saw interesting folks along the way.

First 10km

It was dark and the urge to go and release the water tank surface again. At 9.5km mark, got behind a highway pillow and do my stuff. Saw one Malay, long hair, with a cap, wearing Jeans and runs with us !!! I only see him around for the first 10km, after that no idea where he is. Most probably way behind. Another outstanding figure is this Korean lady(very skinny) carry a digital camera and runs with it. This lady definitely runs faster than myself. Run, take photo and run again. I was like…har…42km leh…no joke and this lady carry the camera all the way throughout the run and still got time and strength to concentrate on taking photos. Well, everybody runs for different reason, maybe her ideal of running is different from ours. True words from the organizer, water points and sponge points are thoroughly spaced out along the race and this time round(lots of complains last year), all stages are fully equipped with sufficient water. Cold water, 100plus and cold sponges are a welcome relief for everyone. My pace for 10km is pretty decent, slightly lower than 60mins.

First 20km

I should be good for 20km-30km run, then the rest, have to push and pray for the best.
I believe at this stage, I get more relaxed and starting to enjoy myself and look at the surrounding, as the dawn breaks. Throughout this stage, the road seems familiar as I have traveled along the same path yesterday when my friend drove me around. All the negative views I heard previous on KL Marathon has disappeared. The traffic police did a marvelous job (Spore traffic police should learn from them). Throughout the entire run, never have I needed to slow down or jog on the spot, it was always runner fast, car/bike takes a latter stage to the dismayed of the latter. The pace for 20km is pretty good, still within the 60mins per 10km pace and I am feel good.

First 30km

This is going to be the transition period. My normal weekly run is between 20-30km. In fact, I covered only once in 30km. Took my first package of Powerbar Gel around 25km mark. Immediately feel the boost. Throughout this distance feeling good and starting to get a bit bored, I would said. Let try chatting with some runners. I had spoken to one uncle late 40’s. He said he looking at covering 1km at a time. I remind him to count down instead of counting up, and morale wise will be better. I meet up with fellow Singapore runner, one bulky Indian guy which I have seem training in Esplande area and we did a few public runs together though we have never spoken. This is his 8th Marathon. He runs to keep slim, as he informed me during the short run together. Wow. Pompoms gals spotted finally, not bad looking though. Alas, no mood to sian gal lah. Overtook by the lead 21km runners leow lah at this stage as expected. The pace for 30km is still on a 60mins/10k pace. I am surprised. I didn’t expect such timing and I am feeling good.

First 40km

Venture into the unknown feeling good. What more can I asked? On this pace, if I can stay another 60mins/10km pace, I would have cover the entire distance around 4:15hrs. Wow, that is beyond my wildest imagination. Can I do it? The organizer provide another does of Powerbar Gel(unexpected) at one of the water point around 33km. Sigh, I just took out another dose of Gel too and have to put it back. At this point, I SMS my sweetheart to meet up earlier as expected at the finishing point. I want her to see me when I cross the finishing line. At 35km, I can feel the stressed. The arms are getting slightly dumb, OMG am I going to hit the “WALL”….I don’t need this at this moment. Wow piah, the slopes (as advice the ending slopes are killer by those oldies), seow leow. No choice, can’t continue the pace leow. No problem, as expected, shall do the walk and run to the end of the race. My right knee cap is giving way…wtf, how come? I did not overstress the knee? It is agony…I can’t run much. My lungs are good, my legs are a bit stressed, but still okay. My kneecap is killing me. Wah loh…still have a few kilometers to go and this happens. Well, I expected tired body and this kind of problems at this stage. Expecting is one thing, going through it is another. How to survive with this condition is another. I tried to run through it, but could only make about 200metres at a time, as my kneecap just refuse to recover. At this moment, I meet up a Taiwan runner. He came all the way from Taiwan(total 34 of them), just to take part in Marathon !!!! Talking about commitment !!! He has over 50 Marathons under the belt !!! Somehow spoken to him, I managed to jog along him. Strange enough the kneecap recovers. Somehow the slopes force me to continue my walk/run through the last few kilometers. The pace has dropped off, I think I did 1:20hrs for the last 10km. This Taiwan man introduce me to few of his fellow runners along the way, one of the guy carried a camera (seems like a professional) and take pictures. Again, my hearts goes out to him, as he can run and shoot at the same time. Even at this stage of the run!!!

42km

Wow, last 2 km leow, finishing should be at sight shortly. Cool. I continue to do walk/run around the slope to the 1km mark. I can feel it in my bones that the finishing is in front. The body no longer hurts; the lungs get another boost, as I took off for the finishing stretch. What a sight when I turned into the Merdeka Parade and straight in front is the finishing point. OMG, I am going to finish and complete the Marathon. Yeepee, I crossed the finishing line at 4:34:08 seconds.

The End

Nothing feel like having your love ones or family members at the finishing line. My sweetheart waits at the ending point. I handed her the finishing medal that indicates that I am late. This is my first marathon, which in my wildest dream for 30 over years, have not ever crossed my mind that I will completed a Marathon. It is an experience of a lifetime. Will I do that again? The answer will be yes for now. Let me rest my overwork body and see how it goes from here.

Tribute

The person that support me most throughout the journey is my sweetheart. Without her, this will not be possible to achieve. Advice from Marathon runners is valuable. Well wishers from friends motivates me further. The entire journey proof one important factor. If you set your mind and work hard towards it, rewards will come.

Impossible Is Nothing.

Real Run - Training Log 24 July 05

New Balance REAL RUN actual day is on 28 August 05 . 6km road, 1.6 sand, 2.4 trail.

A group of sgrunners decided to take part in the training run provided by New Balance. Well nothing feel better than get to know the route of the event isn't? Since the car is back, in time for me to make a trip there. This will be my first outing with the sgrunners.....;)

I reached Sentosa around 07:35am at the visitor arrival carpark and the carpark is almost full....which is abit unusual....i thought going to be a small group of runners, maybe 1-200 the most. It turnout mecham likes 500 or more....;)

I waited for the rest of the sgrunners to gather at Sukami's car. Saw a few of familiar faces and glad to see so many new faces taking part in the training. One thing for sure, next time i shall park the car at the gateway carpark as it is nearer to the finishing line. At least i can hop in and dash home after the event.

Promptly around 8am the event started. This is a training run, everyone take it easier, no dashing like mad from the gun. I had a 20km run yesterday, should not be running today. Anyway what the heck, just run slower then. I started off slowly with baby steps...at least that is how i feel and the rest of the sgrunners just slowly moved further away. The only person i can spot making a dash at the earlier stage is brokenarrow...maybe the speed is too slow for her.

I take it slowly on the road, i know it is slow as i feel slow, and my body is not able to rise up the tempo. Anyway, relax lah..... Every 500 metres there are a signboard that tells the distance, maybe except the last 9.5km mark since i didnt see it, which is good as we know how far we have run or how much LEFT that is to the end. The route have quite a few bit and pieces of uphill and downhill. Nothing very drastic, but nevertheless make me panting for the first part of the run. I slowly catch up(or is it the other way round) with Penguin at around 4km mark. Chat with her for a while, telling her i cant stalked her from behind any longer as i need to move ahead, asking her to stalked me instead. I guess she doesnt fancy that and wanted to be the ultimate SLOW runner among us....hehe....

At 5km mark we hit the SAND !!!! Hello...isnt the sand suppose to be at the 6km mark!!!!...anyway this is a good thing about running the actual route during training, so that there are no surprises on the actual day. The SAND isnt as bad as everyone is telling me....;) Sure or not so tough meh...seems quite okay leh....abit soft at times, but still good to run on lah.....maybe it is my experience running on pebbles at Bedok Reservior that is making this easy?

The SAND stop at 5.5km mark...hmmmm....short changes on the SAND part??? Proceed to run, by this time the engine have warm up and is ready to push on the speed. I take a quick look at the watch it is 36mins or 30+ lah...ok...based on current speed i should finish just a few mins after an hour...which is okay given yesterday run.

At 6km, we hit the SAND again...this time round, we go almost 1km(7km mark) before hitting the road once more. Ok, we are more or less finishing the SAND part !!! as we are running along the beaches....i keep wondering if another part of sand awaits us further ahead....;)

Finally reach Rasa Sentosa before we head into the jungle trail(8km mark). The SAND part is abit short of 1.6km i feel. As i entered the trail there is a slightly up slope and my mind tune back to Macritchie Reservior route for inspiration and expectation mode. Hmm....it never required that. Apart from the initial 30metres up slope, the rest are pretty flat, just zip-zap along two walls of greens(what kind of trail is this?). Hit out of the trail around 9.5km(didnt see the signboard) and headed straight to the ending point and hit the "tape" at 56mins and 31sec.... not a bad timing i feel for a relax run....but kind of feel short for the distance though....

I dont think i will go for anymore training run for this event anymore. The $2 per car entry and the distance travelled from home, doesnt warrant another try. Today experience will give me some idea of the route and hopefully i will get better timing next time round....;)

Anyway, good workout. Get to meet a few folks and hope to catch up with everyone soon again.

Grounded

The entire week i am grounded. The car is in the workshop and i have to travel everywhere by Bus/MRT/Taxi etc.

Under normal circumstance, my car undergoes repairs or service the lost is just a few days, but this time round it took a week. After driving for quite some time, it has to get abit used to. It is not that i can't survive without a car, it is more like do lesser stuffs than i am used to.

I managed to do a run around my neighbour on Monday evening. Did 8km slightly less than 40mins, if i remember properly. I can’t remember when is the last time i did a run at the neighbour, as it is always litter with walks/smokers and other unwanted distractions. Yes, it does have a few here and there, but i think it isn't that bad this time round. I am pampered with the freedom to run on the venue i have chosen and still prefer to run with less people around.

Apart from the Monday run, i didn’t have any outside working hours exercises during weekdays....:-( Well, that basically sums up my exercise regime at current status. I am not taking it serious and should be doing more as more public runs are coming up and i might not have the time to train. Maybe i am trying to peak at Standard Chartered Marathon, and trying to take it easy. Anyway, the excuses are that i am hitting the gym during lunch times every weekday & staying in shape!!!....;)

Saturday went for a 20km run with Francis and Simon at Kallang. Took me 2hrs and 8 mins to finish. Abit tough today, is it starting too fast? Or some other reasons? Francis finished 18km, where Simon completed 10km. We showered and went to Macpherson there for breakfast with Agnes, Desmond and Tracy. We have a sinful Prawn and Pork Noddles....yummmy......;)

Finally get my old friend (car) back from the workshop at Yishun. Can't of missing my old friend....

Sunday .....? Well....coming up soon....:)

Jog Log 16 July 05

It was a low mileage week for me. In fact, can't remember when was the last time i have those 60-80km week anymore. Anyway it is okay....giving myself full of excuses again....;)

After blood donation, it is expected that the body will feel weak. Physically i feel okay, but quite a feel people come to myself and tell me, "u look tired". Maybe it is bcos i dont have enough sleep i guess. Sigh......

Let see apart from the gym sessions, i hit the track once and one long run today....hehe....

1 x 4km, 2 x 1.2km and 1 x 800m....enough leow lah...body tired....don't really want to push too much just a few days after the blood was drawn.....

Today went jogging with Francis, Simon at Kallang-Esplande. It was drizzle, stop, drizzle early morning, we reach the place around 6:10am after Francis pick me and Simon up. Long story why i did not drive to Kallang instead.

Today aim is to run nonstop for 2 hours for Francis as he trained for Sheares Bridge Half Marathon, with Decemeber Full Marathon the Goal. Simon is to run 8-10km non stop to get himself ready for the New Balance Real Run. My aim is to follow them and have a relax run, dont push myself and complete 18km in 2 hrs.

It was dark and the road is wet. We troop off towards Esplande. We ran together slowly and make the 8km loop in 57mins+. I know it is slow, but it is okay, as today is Simon first time running in this area with us, we need to show him the route. Simon drop off as expected as he is not ready for longer distance yet, he complains that his leg hurt too. Francis and myself push ourself forward. Francis told me he wanted to push for 20km today if possible, i feedback, even though at 8km stage you are feeling good, but when you make the loop back, your body will tell you otherwise, just keep to 16km for now will do. Anyway see how the body go....;)

We split up and i run slightly faster in front. It was a dark and wet day, no sun nothing....wanted to show Simon the raising sun along the return 8km route which is good, but unfortunately cant do it today. On the return leg, saw a group of ladies runners(last week saw them), do workout by the roadside, some are beautiful, damn good lah...morning got something nice to see....hehe....when i run past their place, they decided to run with ME...i think.....hehe.... as i run, they give chase and 2 of them almost catch up with me. Wah pah....damn jialat kena chase by ladies....so bo pian and have to up the tempo. Lucky they give up and slow down after a few hundreds metres, by then my engine have gone up another gear and doesnt want to slow down......no choice i push on, finished the 2nd 8km route and run for another 2km(1km return) to make it 18km in 2:03hrs. that means first 8km is 57mins, next 10km is 66 mins.

Francis finished 16km. His lung is willing, but his legs weren't. Nevermind lah, we life to fight for another day...;)

I want to do a relax run and kena spolit by these ladies....sob sob....next time i shall stare at them a few more times when i get the chance to see those mei nui......hehe....

This is looking better

Early morning, went for a run at Kallang/Esplande....ran 23km for 2:38hr. Though the timing is slow, it is nice to be pushing the distance. The aim today is to push out the mileage and not the timing. I am definitely capable of doing much better but i choose otherwise.

After the run, took a bath at the toilet and aiyoh...quite a few places kena abrasions and it is painful....sob...sob....why? same clothes and shoe and still this happened which is totally unexpected.....

I met with Pheck Leng and have breakfast afterwards. Damn good the half-boiled eggs at Kilinery Kopitiam(Purvis Rd).

Went to Bloodbank to release my quarterly dose of blood. No choice lah...must take some blood out or else gonna burst....haha.....

Night time have outing at Geylang. Damn stuffy evening, Frog Leg Porridge, Taiwan Yutiao, Durains.....wonder enough to put back what i have lost today.

Body feeling okay...legs are fine...should be able to push up more mileage.....hehe....

Pontian Trip 2 July 05

Finally the day for the Durain trip that we have talked for quite some time. This is my first time to any plantation since the youngs day when i stayed at the kampung.

6:40am, i am suppose to pick up Debra, before that i am suppose to pick up danny buie(US IT). The Alarm clock did not sound off & i woke up at 6:40am....ahhhh.........how come !!!!!! Rush like mad, no choice lah....reach Malaysia custom at 7:55am. Paiseh lah, i know i am late.....u know lah...me not like that....;)

we have breakfast in Johore. Then we proceed to go Maria new house...damn beautiful for 700k Ringget, cheap compare to Singapore standard, 4 stories high somemore, make me drooling.....

We proceed to Pontian Kechil for some shopping of Pineapple. We are treated to some fresh pluck pineapple, before we go to the plantation. Wow, mosquito like me lah.....sob sob....anymore what a treat- animals, fruits galore. Hey har, durians drop while we pick and didnt hit anymore. like the old saying, the durain tend to have eyes....

I enjoy myself there, eat durains, rambutans, mangosteen, climb trees etc. Taking a nap in the house(damn shiok)....hahaa.....stay the whole time until almost 6:30pm.

Later we go kukup for seafood dinner. Food so so lah, but ok lah. This is the 2nd time i went, the other time was last year in the morning. Night time have its share of beauty as well.

Proceed back to Singapore after that. Reach home around 11pm+....tired....what a day.......

Milk Run 2005 Result

Yeah, the results are out. I came in 164 out of 200 official posting for Men Open Category. Time is 55:05.

Well, my watch say 54:40. hmmm....yeah, the clock on my hand only starts when i cross the starting line, not when the horn/gong/bell/siren/whatever sounds....haha....

I feel the results should have postings for all runners, not just top 200 hundreds or whatever criterion the organiser might think. Especially when they are no prior announcement(at least not that i'm aware of) about only publishing the top 200 finishers. I feel bad for those runners at the back, they have put in the effort to make this a successful event and this is how the organiser treat them. Maybe the organiser are not runner, just trying to get $ from the public for their cause. Since they have started it off as a running event, they should be official timing for all runners, irregardless of what time it take(reasonally lah...cap it at 2hrs etc).

Milk Run 2005

Milk Run 2005

3 July 05

10km
3:30pm(Zouk)

Yes, there are a lot of children at the Run, but there are nothing Milk about it. They are pretty fast, even for the girls. I am impressed with the young ones doing 10km instead of shorter distance (5.3km).

It was a Hot day, well it seems hot, but it doesn’t bother me as I “think” I am used to it by now. Anyway I arrived at 3:10pm with Francis, 20 mins before the official starting off. Don’t even bother to register and just deposit with baggage with do.

The field isn’t hugh for the 10km event, which is a blessing, as I believe most runners would have taken part in the OSIM Triathlon this morning, and don’t even bother to run this. In fact, only people (loser) like me, ended up taking part in this event. Don’t get me wrong, this event is for a good cause, and folks should join in and spread the world about youth commitment to the society. We do make mistake here and there, to know we have make a mistake and learn from it is part of growing up.

The 10km race starts shortly before 3:30pm by the Minister (no ideal what is name). It started slowly along the Riverwalk. Narrow road and mass people(I estimate about 500) jam up the space in front and I slowly ease my way forward. Saw a few foreigner with amusing eyes following our movement while having lunch or dinner or Brunch or whatever.

Quite a few ladies runners to motivate me along the way. As i run faster, the lesser the ladies runners. One outstanding one, is a pretty SPG(Pink shorts), Sports Bra running between 2 expats.....;)

The route starts from Zouk, go along Riverwalk, then proceed to Esplanade and move on to the ECP bridge(somewhere near the 1.4km mark) and make a U-Turn back. The route at Esplanade is very crowd as I believe there is a dragon boat competition and lots of schools are involved.

I am glad that about 1.5km down the road, I am virtually overtaking everyone in front. I was feeling okay, don’t dare to chiong to much as the weather is going to be hot. I reach the halfway mark(U-turn) around 27mins I think(not too sure), but the 2nd part is a bit tough, where the body get tired and the heat snap at the energy every steps I make. I predict a 50-55mins finished today, of course I want a better finishing, but sometime life is just like that.

It is until the last 1 km, where there are 2 persons overtaking myself, they overtook me, not from behind, but after I overtook them. I guess they are just conserving their energy for the last part. After I have overtook them, somehow their competitive nature have crept in and off they fought back (1 men & 1 girl). Anyway, it is good that I lure out their sleeping strength and push them on.

I finished the run in 54:40. I think it is a decent run as a whole. Francis came in around 63:00, which is very good. Saw Sukami, David & Max there.

Till next year, can someone pass me my MILK !!!

IPPT 2005-2006

If you failed, try again. And again, And again. How many times? Technically you have about 1 year to try. I did twice for this fiscal year to reach my goal. Dont bother asking me how many times i did last year. Practise does make prefect. Most folks will not even bother to take it more than once per year for IPPT, alas for myself, the GOLD is within reach and i cant seem to nail it down for 101 reasons. Maybe it is the mental thing, anyway i have exorcise the demon and hopefully i will push on to higher height from now onwards.

Officially I have struck GOLD on 30 June 05
